White House Fintech Summit

The Bitcoin Blockchain officially reached Capitol Hill, organizing a White House Fintech Summit.
After an event with the American President technological advisors organized last month, now there are more and more meetings and speeches about the blockchain.
Also, a few days ago the White House was theater for a Blockchain Summit, during which there were guests such as Secretary Penny Pritzker, president for economic policy Adrienne Harris, director for digital currencies initiatives at the MIT Media Lab Brian Forde and Matthew Roszak of the Chamber of Digital Commerce.
Held by the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, the event was officially called the “White House Fintech Summit”.
In the audience there were also representatives from companies such as Deloitte, JP Morgan, PayPal and Microsoft.
President Obama’s special assistant Harris published a blog post with the conclusions of this event, you can read it here.
The article, titled The Future of Finance is Now was published on June 10th, the same day of the event, and it contains several ideas and thoughts about fintech and its implications such as people financial health and civil rights.
“Today at the White House, we convened stakeholders from across the financial technology (fintech) ecosystem, including traditional financial services institutions, fintech startups, investors, thought leaders, and policy makers, to discuss how fintech can help advance critical economic policy priorities”.
Recently CNBC said that Barack Obama needs to embrace Bitcoin and Blockchain soon, so maybe this is a good start for the US government to study and implement the distributed ledger.

The newest Richard Branson’s Blockchain Event

The well-known founder of Virgin Group, Richard Branson has organized a new blockchain-related event on his private island in the Carribbean.
Among his about 40 guests there are: Beth Moses, engineer for the Virgin Galactic; Laurent Lamothe, former prime minister of Haiti; Jim Newsome, former chairman at the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission; and Elizabeth Rossiello, CEO at BitPesa.
This is the second year for the Branson’s Blockchain Event on his Necker Island, also thanks to the support of the mining company BitFury.
BitFury CEO Valery Vavilov explained:
“Our emphasis for this year’s gathering is to bring some of the world’s top thinkers from diverse backgrounds – civil society, [non-governmental organizations], business, technology, government – to this extremely special place known for free thinking and cutting edge innovation.”
 

Branson’s Blockchain Event

From 3rd to 7th June, guests will partecipate to this summit focused on three main topics: financial technology, security and global change.
Also, they will have a lot of networking time, a great opportunity to build connections.
Last year’s event generated some controversy about the lack of women, so this year the list includes several female experts who work in the blockchain field, as you can read on the guest list above.

Branson in Bitcoin

Of course this is not the first time Branson talks about Bitcoin.
A few months ago, during an interview on Bloomberg TV, he explained that this cryptocurrency is working well.
In a conversation with journalist Trish Regan about space tourism, Branson also commented positively on the future of the Bitcoin industry.

European Parliament hosts a conference on Bitcoin

The European Parliament will host a conference on cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.
The four days event aims at educating MEPs about new technologies related to finance and economy.
To do so, the event has been organized together with the European Digital Currency and Blockchain Technology Forum (EDCAB), a new Bruxelles platform related to Bitcoin and the Blockchain.
The conference will start next week and will see the partecipation of World Bank, IMF, OECD, Nasdaq, Blockchain.info, Bank for International Settlements, United Nations and Europol, among the others.
Syed Kamall, the event host, explained:
 
“I am pleased to be hosting the exhibition on blockchain and virtual currencies in the European Parliament. Legislators internationally are now looking at this area and how to protect the consumer while stimulating innovation.”
Unfortunately the conference will not be public, but it could represent a great opportunity and an important turn around for the cryptocurrencies ecosystem.
Also, this means that the most insightful companies and banks from all around the world are starting to understand the revolution that Bitcoin and the blockchain represents for our daily life.
