{"id":72,"date":"2016-03-10T17:55:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-10T17:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.holytransaction.com\/electricity-through-bitcoin\/"},"modified":"2016-03-10T17:55:00","modified_gmt":"2016-03-10T17:55:00","slug":"electricity-through-bitcoin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holytransaction.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/electricity-through-bitcoin.html","title":{"rendered":"Electricity through Bitcoin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nOn February 2016, <b>MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge<\/b> organized an event about clean energy distribution and how the <b>blockchain<\/b> can help this so important sector.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nThis event was sponsored by the <b>Massachusetts Clean Energy Center<\/b>, an organization who wants to diffuse clean energy, of course.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nOne of the most interesting project was the one presented by <b>Usizo,<\/b> a crowdfunding company who is trying to improve energy payments between users and schools in the African country.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-asBcXwSum6Q\/VuG0bL7Rm-I\/AAAAAAAAARM\/Ejmi6nOiOsEufY76vlvbJ_Ln6tWcIOG7w\/s1600\/orange-light-1182121.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"265\" src=\"https:\/\/holytransaction.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/orange-light-1182121.jpg\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nDuring the event Usizo presented its demo that has allowed to turn the light on at the <b>Emaweni Primary School in Soweto<\/b>.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nCEO of the blockchain startup <b><a href=\"http:\/\/bankymoon.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bankymoon<\/a><\/b>, Lorien&nbsp;<b>Gamaroff<\/b>, explained how electricity in South Africa works: rather than paying for electricity after it is received, users have to pay for it in advance; and it could be very expensive for those who live in a peripheral area. Also, this system relies on third parties who act between final customers and power companies, so prices get higher.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<i>&#8220;A prepaid payment system makes the energy a lot more expensive because those vendors need infrastructure, there\u2019s traveling cost, and it\u2019s also very expensive to make those payments.
