\n year ago, a bitcoin was worth $13. And today, the same piece of digital
\n currency is valued at more than $800 on popular online money exchanges.
\n But Chris Dixon believes that\u2019s still a serious bargain.<\/div>\n
\nDixon, a partner with the big-name
\nSilicon Valley venture capital firm Andressen Horowitz, is adamant that
\nbitcoin could become the primary means of making payments on the
\ninternet, and if that happens, the price of a bitcoin will skyrocket. \u201cI
\n think it could be easily worth $100,000,\u201d he says.<\/div>\n

\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\nThat may seem crazy, but Dixon is not
\nalone. Many among the bitcoin faithful believe that current bitcoin
\nprices are on the low side compared to what they will become. You see,
\nthere are only a limited number of bitcoins \u2014 the worldwide software
\nsystem that drives the digital currency will stop minting money sometime
\n in the next century, when there are about 21 million in circulation \u2014
\nand this means that a spike in popularity will likely drive a huge
\nincrease in price.<\/div>\n
\nStill not convinced? Dixon points to
\nwhat has happened with another scarce but widely used internet resource.
\n \u201cDomain names are an analogy,\u201d he says. \u201cIt would have been absurd to
\nsay in 1993 that domain names were worth $10 million each.\u201d But now, that\u2019s a reality<\/a>.<\/div>\n
\nSure, $10 million domains aren\u2019t the
\nnorm. But according to Dixon, the startups funded by Andressen-Horowitz
\ntypically pay a \u201ccouple of hundred grand\u201d for a domain name that
\nincludes a no-more-than-average word. \u201cProbably the best investment in
\ncomputer history would have been buying domain names in 1993,\u201d he says.
