(CoinDesk<\/a>) US Senator Tom Carper yesterday called on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC<\/a>) to clarify its position on digital currencies.
\nCarper is a Delaware Democrat and he currently heads up the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee<\/a>.
\n It should be noted that Delaware is home to many credit card companies
\nin the US, thanks to business-friendly regulations that have attracted
\nnumerous financial institutions to the state.
\nAccording to Bloomberg<\/a>,
\n Carper\u2019s staff are already working on a report on digital currencies,
\nscheduled for release sometime in the spring. Carper\u2019s email to the CFTC
\n was a response to an earlier letter from former CFTC chair Gary
\nGensler. He, in turn, was responding to an inquiry on digital currencies
\n filed by Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

The tone of Carper\u2019s email is
\ninteresting: \u201cGiven that we read about a new venture in the digital
\ncurrency space nearly every day, it is important that our government
\nagencies respond appropriately and in a timely manner with thoughtful
\npolicy and oversight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThose willing to take risks and play by the rules should have the opportunity to thrive without the fog of uncertainty.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It appears that Carper isn\u2019t looking for a clampdown on digital currencies \u2013 he merely wants to eliminate any ambiguities.<\/p>\n
