\nmoney in digital currency and skilfully using it for in-game purchases,
\ntipping buddies on reddit and other really cool things which have yet to
\n be invented.<\/div>\n
\nCurrently, of course, most kids are still raiding their parents\u2019 pockets for a few units of their local fiat currency.<\/div>\n
\nYet
\n there are a few enterprising youngsters here and there who have already
\n discovered the advantages of bitcoin, are using it, and are even making
\n generous amounts of pocket money from it.<\/div>\n
\nIn this article, CoinDesk looks at the kids that are making the most of bitcoin.<\/div>\n

\nA swarm of talent<\/h2>\n

Hailing
\n from Cache Valley, in northern Utah, three brothers between the ages of
\n 11 and 15 have their own successful honey business at home in the Cache
\n Valley.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nIt all began when Nate, Sam and Ben Huntzinger caught a
\nswarm of bees as an experiment. Little did they know it would lead to a
\nsmall business and an obsession with bitcoin.<\/div>\n
\nTheir father, Craig,
\n says they had no intention of starting a business. \u201cAs we started
\nworking with honey and beeswax we started making new things for
\nourselves, and eventually got a small business licence, more honeybee
\nhives, and started selling our items at our local Farmer\u2019s Market,\u201d he
\nsaid.<\/div>\n
\nThey heard about bitcoin in 2011 and were instantly
\nattracted by the concept of a decentralised, non-inflationary
\ncurrency. The ideals behind bitcoin seem to align with those of the
\nHuntzinger family.<\/div>\n
\nThe three brothers are home-schooled as their
\nfather admits they have a different view of education. \u201cWe don\u2019t believe
\n that government has a monopoly on education, nor that the only way to
\nlearn is being forced to sit at a desk all day and stare at a book [\u2026]
\nThe whole purpose of getting that first hive, and later the business
\nlicence, was all about education. What would happen if we did this\u2026?\u201d<\/div>\n
\nThe
\n answer is a flourishing business and three boys learning about finance
\nand investing before they\u2019ve even finished high school. Business is
\nbooming. From selling pots of their honey locally, their company, Bees Brothers<\/a> now
\n produces several different flavours of honey caramels, honey roasted
\nalmonds, beeswax lip balms and candles both at the markets and via their
\n website. And all can be had for bitcoin, of course.<\/div>\n

\nThe publishing moguls<\/h2>\n
\n\"Bitcoin-for-Kids-The-Trilogy\"<\/a><\/div>\n
\nIf you\u2019re confused at all about what bitcoin is and how to use it, then head right over to the BitKidz website<\/a> where
\n you\u2019ll find a host of online tutorials, as well as the chance to buy a
\nhost of books (using bitcoin) that explain the subject.<\/div>\n
\nAnd that\u2019s
\n not the best part. The site and books, as well as a host of other blogs
\n and publications are all written by a trio of young sisters, who
\ndescribe themselves thus on their blog:<\/div>\n
\n

\n\u201cWe\u2019re three
\ntech tweenpreneurs, also known as The Sabra Sisters. We were born in
\n2000, 2001 and 2003. We\u2019ve been blogging since 2008, started making
\nmoney online in 2010, [and] became bestselling kindle authors in 2013.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\n30th May 2013 was a life-changing day for the sisters. That was the day they were introduced to cryptography by their Uncle I.J.<\/div>\n
\nAware
\n that they were all successful juvenile nonfiction authors, he
\nchallenged the sisters to write a \u201925 Fun Facts of Bitcoin\u2019 book, which
\neventually evolved into the five-book \u2018Bitcoin for Kids<\/a>\u2018 series.<\/div>\n
\nThey
\n immediately started researching into bitcoin and, less than 24 hours
\nlater, surprised him with the launch of their brand new blog dedicated
\nto learning about the digital currency \u2013 the first post being entitled, \u2018Yes, we\u2019re interested Uncle I.J.<\/a>\u2018 The rest as they say, is history.<\/div>\n
\nThe
\n girls generally divide up the different tasks required for the
\npublications, depending on their skills and preferences, but said JuJu:<\/div>\n
\n

\n\u201cMy sisters and I split up the various tutorials so everyone had a share in spending bitcoin and having fun. ;-)\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\nNow
\n the home-schooled girls justifiably boast they are \u201cprofessional
\nbloggers and bestselling authors\u201d, with some credit given to their
\nmother Ponn<\/a> \u2013 also a blogging professional \u2013 for her guiding input too.<\/div>\n
\nCollectively,
\n the Sabra sisters have over two-dozen kindle books published, with an
\nastonishing 55,000 plus downloads during the past year, JuJu told
\nCoinDesk, adding:<\/div>\n
\n

\n\u201cWe rarely look at each individual title, but two books are our bestsellers making up nearly 40,000 of those downloads: \u2019Science Projects for Kids\u2019 and the \u2019My First Smoothie Recipe Book\u2019.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

Reddit
\n user DorkusPrime came across young entrepreneurs Mia and Taylor in
\nCalifornia back in January in the Noe Valley neighbourhood of San
\nFrancisco. He posted a photo<\/a> of the two little girls at their cookies and lemonade booth and it quickly became something of a web sensation.<\/div>\n

\n\u201cThese
\n adorable little girls just sold me snickerdoodles for Bitcoin in San
\nFrancisco. I asked them to say cheese for the Internet :),\u201d DorkusPrime<\/a> wrote at the time.<\/div>\n
\nThe girls were accepting bitcoins via the QR code plastered to the booth\u2019s roof. And business was pretty good too \u2013 the pair told Foodbeast<\/i><\/a> that they had made 0.083 BTC, which was around $70 at the time.<\/div>\n

\nThe youngest bitcoin author<\/h2>\n

\nYouthful
\n writer, Jaden Shelton (A.K.A. the Bitcoin Kid) claims to be \u201cthe
\nyoungest author ever who has published a book offered only in bitcoin\u201d.<\/div>\n
\nPublished last year, when he was nine, his book The Scary Blueberry<\/a><\/i> is the \u201cideal book for children facing new foods and new challenges!\u201d, Jaden says on his online store.<\/div>\n
\nInspiration for the book came from his problems eating certain foods as a younger child, Jaden told CoinDesk:<\/div>\n
\n

\n\u201cIt was something funny that happened in my childhood \u2013 I used to not eat certain foods and we would say \u2018are you scared of a blank<\/i>?
\n I would say \u2018no\u2019 and we would keep joking around with it. A few years
\nlater, we started thinking about making a book about it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\nAs well as being a self-published author, the Bitcoin Kid maintains a blog<\/a> about aspects of bitcoin that interest him and as a platform for his videos.<\/div>\n
\nA
\n promising TV presenter, Jaden has posted a series of videos in which he
\n interviews key staff at prominent digital currency businesses, such as
\nripple, Mycelum and BitInstant.<\/div>\n
\nWhen asked what he planned to do later in life, Jaden said:<\/div>\n
\n

\n\u201cWell, you can\u2019t buy anything unless you have a job, so I might be an entrepreneur \u2026 or maybe sell toys to kids.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\nThe shrewd investor<\/h2>\n

\nAndrew
\n Karam isn\u2019t your average nine-year-old. While most kids his age ask for
\n the latest must-have toy for their birthdays, Andrew requested shares
\nin Apple.<\/div>\n
\nHis parents bought him $120-worth and Andrew watched the
\n price of the stock with interest, checking regularly whether his
\ninvestment had gone up or down in value.<\/div>\n
\nAndrew\u2019s father, Steve, later told him about bitcoin and the schoolboy was hooked.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cHe
\n was incredibly excited about it and asked if I could take his Apple
\nstock and cash it out for BTC, so I made him a paper wallet and [\u2026]
\nbought a bit at a time,\u201d Steve wrote in a post on reddit<\/a>.<\/div>\n
\nAndrew
\n later told his teacher about his investment, revealing he had made
\nabout $50 since his dad bought him some bitcoins. He said he was
\noriginally thinking of cashing out 25% of his investment, but the savvy
\nyoungster decided to hold on to his cryptocurrency.<\/div>\n
\nAndrew wanted
\nto do more than just a talk at school to get his peers involved in
\ndigital currency. So he asked his father whether he could sell bitcoins
\nto his classmates, then get them back by accepting BTC as payment for
\nhis Wonder Bracelets, which he makes from colourful elastic bands.<\/div>\n
\nWith a few doubts, Steve set up an online store for the aspiring entrepreneur called Bracelets for Bitcoin<\/a>.<\/div>\n
\nAndrew\u2019s
\n story and enthusiasm struck a chord within the bitcoin community, with
\nsome members of reddit making donations to the 4th grader.<\/div>\n
\nSteve
\nsaid his son is \u201csuper excited\u201d by all the support he is getting and
\neven commented that he wants to be a \u201cprofessional millionaire\u201d when he
\ngrows up.<\/div>\n

And
\n finally, let us not forget the enterprising college kid who, in early
\nDecember 2013, made it onto TV holding up a sign with a bitcoin logo and
\n wallet QR code at ESPN\u2019s \u2018College GameDay\u2019 game.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nAfter a little sharpening by helpful members of the public, a still of the moment made it onto the front page of reddit<\/a>
\n and caught the attention of the bitcoin community, who promptly sent
\nhim a flurry of donations amounting to over $24,000 in bitcoin, some of
\nwhich he allegedly donated to Sean\u2019s Outpost<\/a> \u2013 a bitcoin-funded homeless outreach centre in Pensacola, Florida.<\/div>\n
