{"id":2459,"date":"2017-06-09T15:34:47","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T15:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/holytransaction.com\/blog\/?p=2459"},"modified":"2019-06-12T17:02:59","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T17:02:59","slug":"blockchain-passports-dubai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holytransaction.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/blockchain-passports-dubai.html","title":{"rendered":"Blockchain passports to be used in Dubai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new project related to <strong>blockchain passports<\/strong> is being developed by the <strong>Dubai government<\/strong> and the English startup called <strong>ObjectTech<\/strong> with the main objective of improving security for the Emirate&#8217;s airport.<\/p>\n<p>A few days ago, ObjectTech announced that it is working together with the\u00a0<strong>Dubai Immigration and Visas Department<\/strong> to create blockchain passports to potentially eliminate manual checks\u00a0at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dubai-international-airport.com\/\">Dubai International airport<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This system exploits <strong>biometric verification and blockchain technology<\/strong> in order and it will use a &#8220;pre-approved and entirely digitized passport\u201d in order to easily and safely authorize travelers&#8217; entrance into the Emirates.<\/p>\n<p>Also, thanks to blockchain passports, <strong>people will be identified through a 3D scan<\/strong> via a short tunnel while they walk from the aircraft to claim their baggage.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the use of a distributed ledger technology (it&#8217;s still unclear what blockchain will be used), ObjectTech explained that passports will contain a feature called <strong><em>self-sovereign identity<\/em> <em>for privacy protection<\/em><\/strong>, which it allows travelers to\u00a0control which parties\u00a0can\u00a0view their info.<\/p>\n<p>Co-founder and CEO of ObjectTech, <strong>Paul Ferris<\/strong>, wrote a blog post where he explains that the company aims at making the border process quicker and safer, and also giving passengers full control of their digital data. A\u00a0pilot program is anticipated to be ready by 2020, although\u00a0a detailed project timeline remains unclear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A\u00a0pilot program will be ready by 2020.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dubai is not new to this kind of projects.
