\n(CoinDesk<\/a>) Another e-commerce giant has joined the bitcoin world, with major
\nMalaysian online mobile phone and electronic parts retailer i-Pmart
\nadding it to the list of accepted payment methods last week.<\/div>\n
\nCEO
\nand founder Mart Tang also said the company will hold onto the bitcoins
\nit earns and watch the price rise, rather than convert them into local
\nfiat currency.<\/div>\n
\nAlthough based in Malaysia, the company ships
\nworldwide from outlets in its home country, plus China and the US. The
\nbitcoin<\/a> option was introduced first to the Malaysian site only, though
\ninternational customers may still use that version.<\/div>\n
\nAll other i-Pmart sites worldwide will start accepting about 20 days from now, as soon as the integration process is complete.<\/div>\n

\nLow-key launch<\/h2>\n
\nWhat\u2019s most surprising about i-Pmart\u2019s<\/a>
\n decision is the lack of fanfare with which bitcoin was added to the
\nlist of options. Rather than publicizing it, or even celebrating the
\nannouncement with its 730,000+ fans<\/a>
\n on Facebook, the company added the bare-bones line \u201cWe accept bitcoin\u201d
\nand an icon into its long list of existing payment options.<\/div>\n

\ni-Pmart
\n is also a big seller of litecoin<\/a> mining equipment, selling GPU-based
\nrigs both to advanced users to self-assemble with the \u2018Savvy Pack<\/a>\u2019, and a \u2018Newbie Pack<\/a>\u2019 for beginners that includes the option to have i-Pmart assemble, host and even operate the hardware for them.<\/div>\n
\nDespite this, however, the company is not adding litecoin as a payment option yet.<\/div>\n

\nBitcoin fan<\/h2>\n
\nCEO
\n Tang said his interest in bitcoin came from being an IT entrepreneur
\nalways searching the Internet for the latest tech information and
\ngadgets.<\/div>\n
\nShortly after absorbing everything he could about bitcoin
\n and other digital currencies, he began hearing about merchants in other
\n countries accepting bitcoin and studied how to become a digital
\ncurrency miner himself.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThis gives me more insight into bitcoins and others types of coin on how it works and benefits from it,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n

\n\u201cThat\u2019s
\n how I have started to think if I have customers who want to use bitcoin
\n to purchase my products online which gives convenience of various types
\n of payment choice especially those who do not prefer to pay using their
\n credit card, cash or other mode of payment.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

\nHe then
\n sat down with his web development team to discuss how to integrate
\nbitcoin as a mode of payment in the business portal www.ipmart.com
\nglobally.<\/div>\n

\n\u201c[I’m] looking forward to the new world of
\nvirtual payment choice, which I believe can be the future of global
\nvirtual currency that people might embrace, especially the Gen Y.\u201d
