{"id":173,"date":"2014-07-15T03:49:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-15T03:49:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.holytransaction.com\/linkedin-co-founder-bitcoin-is-in-my\/"},"modified":"2014-07-15T03:49:00","modified_gmt":"2014-07-15T03:49:00","slug":"linkedin-co-founder-bitcoin-is-in-my","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holytransaction.com\/blog\/2014\/07\/linkedin-co-founder-bitcoin-is-in-my.html","title":{"rendered":"LinkedIn co-founder: Bitcoin is in my five-year Investment plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<i>LinkedIn co-founder, early Facebook investor and Greylock Partners partner Reid Hoffman has declared his enthusiasm for bitcoin in a new interview with CNBC\u2019s \u2018Squawk Alley\u2019.<\/i><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/video.cnbc.com\/gallery\/?video=3000292418&amp;play=1\">The interview<\/a> aimed to assess Hoffman\u2019s current opinion of opportunities in the market given his experience and success in early social media.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/media.coindesk.com\/2014\/07\/Screen-Shot-2014-07-14-at-4.38.21-PM-600x370.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.coindesk.com%2F2014%2F07%2FScreen-Shot-2014-07-14-at-4.38.21-PM-600x370.png&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nNotably, despite the suggestions by show hosts that such industries as wearable technology, healthcare and home automation were areas that investors should be considering for investment over the next three-to-five years, Hoffman suggested he is increasingly focused on bitcoin.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nIndicating that the ecosystem has piqued his interest in the last six to 12 months, Hoffman lauded bitcoin, saying:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cI think it\u2019s an incredible system that\u2019s created a ledger that is across \u2013 a distributed ledger across the whole world for it can be money but it can also be other things.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nHoffman recently joined the board of directors at secure bitcoin wallet startup Xapo, an announcement that was made when the company reported $20m in new financing from firms <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/xapo-sets-40-million-fundraising-record-bitcoin-industry\/\">including Greylock Parnters<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nBitcoin ownership.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/media.coindesk.com\/2014\/07\/LinkedIn.jpg\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-blogger-opensocial.googleusercontent.com\/gadgets\/proxy?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.coindesk.com%2F2014%2F07%2FLinkedIn-300x185.jpg&amp;container=blogger&amp;gadget=a&amp;rewriteMime=image%2F*\" \/><\/a>In the interview, Hoffman discussed his personal experience with <a href=\"https:\/\/holytransaction.com\/page\/what-is-bitcoin\">bitcoin<\/a>, confirming that he has purchased \u201ca few bitcoins\u201d to date in addition to his investment in Xapo.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nHoffman also dismissed suggestions that he may be worried about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/price\/\">price of bitcoin<\/a> given the volatility that this indicator has experienced so far in 2014.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nHe added:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cI don\u2019t check [the price] every day. It\u2019s more a question of a three- to five-year horizon, not a daily horizon.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nDespite this, Hoffman cautioned investors, echoing the familiar refrain that investors shouldn\u2019t put any money into bitcoin directly unless they are \u201cwilling to lose the money\u201d.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nPlatform for innovation<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nHoffman further stressed that bitcoin\u2019s true innovation will be its platform, which he called its \u201cmost interesting layer\u201d.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nCiting smart contracts as one such example of the innovation bitcoin entrepreneurs have yet to fully unlock, Hoffman said:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cYou can have bitcoin stand for something that isn\u2019t just a bitcoin. [&#8230;] It could mean your car.
